This piece pays tribute to the highly migratory behaviour of humpback whales. The population that breeds in Brazil migrates annually to the Antarctic seas to feed during the summer, returning to our waters in winter and spring to mate, give birth, and nurse their calves in the milder waters of our coast—a round trip of nearly 9,000 km.
The blue sea glass included represents the long journeys they undertake across the vast ocean. This glass is not made from stone, but rather from pieces of glass that have been naturally polished by the sea over many years and collected from the beaches. In addition to connecting with the theme of the collection, it ensures that no stone is taken from the earth.
